California Girls

Well, on February 2nd I am going to get on a plane and go to California for the first time ever!!!  Now, you all remember I live in Montana - sooo cold.  I'll have to put away my parka (a parka so serious it was given the nickname Auntie Freeze by my niece) and get out my t-shirts!

Jen and I have a fairly packed itinerary.  We'll have three concerts and a recording session!  On the program is Stravinsky's The Owl and the Pussycat, excerpts from James Kallembach's 11 Songs on the Poems of Anne Bradsteet, Mischa Salkind Pearl's Hands and Lips of Wind, and the world premieres of Just Lonesome by Aaron Jay Myers and Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair by Scott Ordway.  This is going to be a great program!

We'll be blogging about our San Diego happenings so don't forget to check back here!!!

The Diagenesis American Folksong Project

Today I'd like to officially share a really exciting project with you: Diagenesis's American Folksong Project.  The AFP was inspired by 11 Pieces on Poems by Anne Bradstreet by James Kallembach (you can listen to a movement from his piece here).  We thought his piece, which set the poetry of American colonist Mrs. Bradstreet, would pair really well with arrangements of american folksongs.  So, we've commissioned five composers— Aaron Jay Myers, Scott Ordway, Ben Irwin, Michael Evans, and Sid Samberg — to arrange folksongs for us. The music is in, we've been practicing them like crazy, and they are fantastic... of course!

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be spotlighting each of these composers here on the blog.  Also, we'll be premiering two of these pieces (Just Lonesome by Aaron Jay Myers and Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair by Scott Ordway) at a concert on February 6th at the University of California San Diego. California friends - don't miss out! Check out our performances page for more information. We're really excited. The other folksongs and the complete Diagenesis American Folksong Project will be premiered in Boston in March.

Of course, we'll share all of the details of our trips and concerts right here, so don't forget to check back!
